Household & Decor

Finnish decor has evolved over time, influenced by the country's natural surroundings, cultural heritage, and functional design principles. Traditionally, Finnish homes emphasized simplicity, functionality, and a strong connection to nature. Early Finnish decor featured handmade wooden furniture, textiles woven from natural fibers like linen and wool, and ceramics with minimalist designs. Reflectors (heijastin), often seen as a mundane safety feature elsewhere, have a fascinating history in Finland. They were first introduced in the 1960s by a Finnish farmer named Arvi Lehti, who sought a way to make pedestrians more visible during the dark and snowy winters.
